Multicultural Fair
The annual fair is a school favorite! Parent volunteers set up educational tables about a country of their choice. When children visit the fair they stop at each table and the volunteers engage them with interesting facts, pictures and objects from that country. Smita Dak, Britta Hion, and Anca Saperia are this year's FM Multicultural Committee co-chairs. What country will you help with on May 10, 2024?
Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from September 15 - October 15. Click HERE for a presentation about Hispanics in the U.S. If you would like to learn more you can find additional resources HERE.
Celebrating Black History
Dr. Carter G. Woodson, an important pioneer in the study of African-American history is known as the ‘Father of Black History.’ He was instrumental in founding The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History and the widely respected publication, the Journal of Negro History. In 1926, Dr. Woodson developed Negro History Week. Fifty years later, President Gerald Ford recognized Black History Month in 1976; he called on the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” This year’s Black History Month theme is ‘The Black Family: Representation, Diversity, and Identity.’
Many educational and cultural facilities throughout the U.S. have assembled curated lists of books, movies, and events to learn about Black History Month. Here are just a few sources we compiled:
